The Admiral’s House

Stunning views of sea-loch and sea, the elusive Aurora Borealis and stunning sunsets. The Admiral’s House is a luxurious and well-appointed self-catering house in Leverburgh at the heart of the Isle of Harris.
Immerse yourself in Island life, gaze at beautiful views across the sea-loch, you might catch a glimpse of the local otters, get sand in between your toes from the award-winning beaches and truly relax in the peace and tranquility of this delightful and really comfortable and luxurious house.

The house sleeps maximum 4 persons; choosing between the three bedrooms on the first floor; one master superking, a double room, and a single room, all serviced by a deluxe bathroom with shower/bath.  There is a large kitchen/diner with huge island, full height fridge and separate full-height fridge, dining table and seating area with sofa, overlooking the garden.

The house is very well appointed, with a real cooks kitchen and boasts high-end appliances from Miele and a LaCanche (hand-built) six-burner gas hob Range cooker featuring both electric and gas cooking ovens.  The living room has superb views and super comfy sofa, sumptuous armchair and footstool. There is a beautifully decorated reading/office room, hallway and downstairs toilet.

The Admiral’s House is located in the heart of Leverburgh close to all the award-winning beaches, Scarista golf course and all amenities; shops, local grocers, fuel, electric charger, post office, restaurant, pop-up food-stops and pub.

The House features 300 thread count The White Company Linen, Christy’s of London Egyptian cotton towels, soft Hungarian goosedown duvet’s and pillows, and Essence of Harris complementary toiletries.  The House gives you that deluxe hotel experience in your own home.  It has been decorated to a high standard in Little Greene French Grey with the talented Kate Forman fabrics on window roman blinds and curtains. There are lots of books, games and of course WiFi and Sky TV including Netflix.

We named the house, The Admiral’s House, because prior a retired Naval man, Arthur, and his charming wife, Rachel, lived here and spent their retirement enjoying the Harris community and the benefit of watching the otters, heron’s, oystercatchers, curlew’s and more in the sea-loch the house looks over. The house was built in the 1930’s by Lord Leverhulme to house his manager’s of the fishing industry local to Leverburgh, in fact, Leverburgh was named after him.  You can see from the house the road carved out for Leverhulme’s railway line which never did get built but was intended to transport the herring from Leverburgh to the Bays on the east side for easy transport to the mainland.

After a busy day exploring, you can return to your beautifully comfortable and cosy house; cook up some local scallops or langoustine; mix a Harris Gin & tonic, curl up on the sofa, watch the sunset over the Atlantic ocean, catching the outline of the heron’s still feeding on the loch, hearing the calls of the Corncrake, or read a good book or watch Sky entertainment, ready to plan your next days adventure in The Outer Hebrides.

For those needing to check-in with the outside world (we know it’s not always easy to switch off completely) our high-speed broadband will facilitate this and there is a charming office to work from if absolutely necessary!

Whether you are the bold adventurous type looking for water sports and mountain climbs, or simply looking for a week of peace, calm & tranquillity, a stay at The Admiral’s House gives something for everyone, even your four-legged friend will feel at home and on holiday!
